Tracks ranked by number of sub 1'45" performances
Wilson Kipketer
The fastest track in the world?

The Letzigrund stadium in Zürich is one of the most famous grounds in track and field. And it can rightfully claim to be the most prolific venue when it comes to fast 800 meter times. In fact it has seen twice as many sub-1:45" performances as almost any other ground.
In 1997 Zürich could even celebrate a world record (see picture) when Wilson Kipketer finally broke Sebastian Coe's long standing mark. That run is still the track record to this day.

Virtually all world class 800 m athletes have run here at least once, and so the list of winners features a host of illustrious names including many Olympic and World Champions. Among them are Mike Boit, Alberto Juantorena, Sebastian Coe, Joaquim Cruz, Steve Cram, Johnny Gray, Billy Konchellah, Paul Ereng, William Tanui, André Bucher, Wilfred Bungei, Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, David Rudisha, Mohammed Aman and of course Wilson Kipketer, who was a winner four times here.
